I’ve encountered a few women who really just want to talk and saying hi gets their attention pretty quickly over using some creepy pickup line. Although I’m not really interested in just talking, for very long that is. Nothing wrong with getting to know someone and it’s the best way of knowing if there is any compatibility off the bat or if you’re both just wasting each other’s time. It’s also a great way of dealing with that first date because you already know a little bit about each other and conversations usually go in a more natural direction based on that knowledge. Free dating sites can be a lot of fun in that sense, although if you’re planning on starting conversations with more than one woman you’d better start taking notes because you’re bound to confuse one or two of them and get yourself into some hot water, as previous experiences have shown me! Now that I’m talking once again about free online dating sites, I think I’m going to get back into it rather than waste time watching other people getting to know each other. Ahh yes, the warmer days, the budding trees and sounds of Loons migrating north once again. Is there no better time of year for a bachelor? I think not! The big question now is do I pull away from free online dating sites and hit the beach? Or stick with it and hope to find some other introverted, nerdy, computer chick that also chooses to stay indoors and enjoy the warmth of her monitor rather than sunlight?
Speaking of places to go to meet men or women (aside from online dating sites of course) there have been several articles written on this, and one location always comes up within the top 3. Most people might think bars or other establishments where people are of the same mind-set, but no, it has always been and may always be…. the grocery store! I guess there’s just something about shopping for produce that gets the juices flowing. I’m sure we all have a mental image of similar produce, but that’s not what this is about. It’s the openness, the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that you’re not actually there to meet anyone that makes it more appropriate to approach that person you find appealing. Whether they’re groping melons for firmness or checking cucumbers for rot - they won’t be expecting you to sidle up behind them and say “Mine’s bigger than that.” The grocery store… who would have thought?

So free dating sites may have to wait until late for early Fall before I can get back into that game - but then again, it is cheap, friendly and from my experience, very safe. To the dismay of many avid readers of this blog, I have not yet once been asked for my credit card number or social insurance number. This to me is absolute PROOF and no naysayer can convince me otherwise because I was there, I looked the beast in the eye and I’m still here to talk about it.

Free dating sites are still a very safe bet and you don’t have to prove that you’re rich until it’s too late - for her! “That’s right baby, I cab it everywhere ’cause it’s cool and I always go Dutch on dates too, so I know the ladies aren’t digging me for the dough.” That’s right ladies, look out ’cause unlike all those other “rich” chumps you’ve been talking to online, this guy is scam your pants off! Or is that wrong?

I get quite a few comments from folk who think that free dating sites are full of scammers and gold diggers waiting to take all your cash because for some reason you gave them access to your credit cards and made them memorize your SIN… Scamming can happen anywhere by anyone; it’s just a matter of taking some necessary precautions that you would apply in any situation anyway! Maybe the bigger scammers are sitting in the paid dating sites waiting for someone who’s a little more trusting because they paid to be there and think everyone else feels the same way.

Free online dating sites are the best way to find out if online dating is the best route for you and there are basically no drawbacks, you only lose a little time on a possibly bad date.

I don’t think there’s enough room on this already 10-foot long blog to describe all these dates, and there really isn’t all that much of interest to describe anyway. Most of these chicks have been pretty normal, dinner conversation was normal - there is always the good night kiss though! That’s something of interest. Usually I start thinking about the good night kiss about an hour or two before going in for the kill. I try to read these women by their gestures, facial contortions and if there’s any sexual innuendo thrown into our conversation. I still have some ‘gentleman’ left in me, so I usually walk them to their door where we almost always have that uncomfortable pause just after saying good night. Sometimes we say good night 3 or 4 times just to try and determine what the other person is thinking. So you go in close and see if they pucker up, then back again if it doesn’t look good, then say good night, then back in until you either get slapped or she concedes. Usually it’s hit and miss with a 50% accuracy rate! So anything can happen and usually does. I was invited up by one nice lady and we had finished the evening off with some nice wine and conversation with no chance of regret. I think I’ll grab some wine and call her back for more.

I shall continue my escapades and hopefully find more time between my dating to follow-up on this blog as I’m sure most of my loyal readers are on the edge of their seats.

I’m not really big on resolutions as I don’t think my faults are that horrible that I should try to change anything drastically, nor do I really believe that the changing of a date should be the factor that gets people motivated to better themselves. I may just start joining more free online dating sites and seeing where that gets me - there are tons of seemingly lonely women out there just waiting for a guy like me to buy them dinner! And that’s just what I’m going to be doing over the next 12 months at least! I don’t think I’m going to settle down with any one person until I’ve made my way through the brunt of them. Before I continue I have to address a couple of comments that I’ve received in regards to my previous posts. It seems I’ve ruffled a few feathers in talking about safety and costs when it comes to free dating sites.

There’s “Jack” who thinks that I’m promoting the worst kind of evil there is by telling my site visitors about the virtues of free dating sites. Jack has had some bad luck with his free dating site experience where he was blackmailed for whatever reason and may have lost some money to an unscrupulous woman. To you Jack I say that this can happen through any site, paid or not. If you don’t take the proper precautions beforehand you’re opening yourself up to potential problems. If a woman whom I just met over the internet asks me for my credit card number, it’s going to raise some immediate suspicion… Scammers would do better to prey on people in pay dating sites as they will be taken more seriously and would most likely get farther and more money then they would preying on someone on a free dating site. So safety issues are really not more prevalent on free online dating sites over paid dating sites - especially if your guard is up, as it should always be when dealing with anyone off the web.

Then there’s “Lola” who sees that my promotion of free dating sites may possibly lead people to their absolute doom, I can only reiterate that one should always err on the side of safety when meeting anyone through online means. Have your guard up, don’t give away your credit card number to strangers and make sure you meet in a public place until you are completely satisfied that this person is truly sane and on the up and up. There are hundreds of stories from people who have met great men and women through free online dating sites and yes there are an equal amount of great stories from people who have met through paid dating sites. The girl that I first met was almost a great catch if she wasn’t so hung up on her ex, and Lola, you can’t tell me that people who pay to join a dating site have any less baggage than people on free dating sites! They’re people from all walks of life, some choose to pay and some don’t - you just have to have some intuition to ensure you get the most out of it.

I did my best to make things go smoothly, trying to talk about things that couldn’t possibly include an ex-boyfriend, but to no avail. She was a nice gal, but she definitely has some baggage that she’s going to have to work on before getting back into the online dating market or any other dating market for that matter. I can say that it is good thing she didn’t spend money on a pay dating site, because that money would have been wasted.

As for myself, using a free dating site really paid off! I’m glad that I met this woman, I’m glad that I was able to get back into the dating game again for only the cost of a dinner and not having any monthly fees. If I was paying a monthly fee, I would feel obligated to get right back into it, where as now I can take a couple of weeks off and spend some quality time shopping through the profiles again. No fees = no obligation!

I know many of you may talk about the quality of the person you’re meeting based on them paying to be involved in the dating world, but I doubt there are fewer people with baggage on pay dating sites than there are on free dating sites. Crazy or hung-up people lurk everywhere, it’s up to the individual person to weed them out before making any commitments like dinner with bad conversation. Still, this was an excellent lesson and it was fun overall, but not something that can be pursued unless my name was “Steve”.

So Sue and I will not be going out for dinner or anything else, but the experience was great and it was a good excuse to get dressed up and head out for a nice dinner - and meeting new people is a definite bonus, even if all they want to do is talk about Steve, who by the way, sounds like a really stand-up guy! Maybe he and I could be friends?
